My first week of Thai boxing is behind me, and I have to say — it completely exceeded my expectations. I was looking for an activity with real meaning, something that would challenge me physically, demand my full mental focus, and get me among people. Thai boxing delivered all of that and more.
This is a beginners’ course, held twice a week over two months. I won’t sugarcoat it — it’s intense. The workouts are a real test of endurance, and you walk out absolutely drained. But strangely enough, I’ve never felt more mentally refreshed. The exhaustion is physical, but my mind feels light, energized, and positive in a way that’s hard to explain. It’s like hitting a reset button.
If the idea of martial arts makes you think of aggression, I can reassure you — that’s not the vibe at all. Thai boxing is all about concentration, discipline, and precise movement. Yes, it can be used for self-defense, but the focus is more on building fitness, coordination, and inner strength.
The best part? You don’t need a partner to start. Even if you come alone, you’ll find yourself among others who are also beginning. It’s a great way to meet new people, challenge your body, and give your mind a break from everyday stress.
After my first session, my muscles were screaming, and I was convinced the second class would be impossible. But I was wrong — I pushed through the soreness, got moving again, and surprised myself with how much I could handle. And now? I honestly can’t wait for the next session.
There are also women-only classes available, so if you’re hesitant about mixed groups, know that you have options.
Have you ever tried a sport or activity that completely surprised you? I’d love to hear your experiences — maybe we can inspire each other
